Note

WhatsApp crushed the photo. Use the camera original.

You cannot un-compress a WhatsApp or iPhone send. If the camera original is still in Photos, send that as a document. Check GPS first. Convert HEIC only if they need a JPEG.

Note

Chrome saved a WebP — when you actually need a PNG

A WebP from Chrome is fine until the form wants PNG. JPEG will flatten the holes. Here is when PNG is the right box — and when it is a bigger file for nothing.

Note

Does Instagram, WhatsApp, Slack, or email strip photo location?

Some apps recompress and drop GPS. Some send the original. Here is which share path usually washes EXIF — and when you should strip the file yourself first.

Does Incognito or a VPN hide what websites know about you?

Private windows clear cookies. A VPN hides your IP. Neither changes timezone, screen, GPU, or a canvas print. Here is what actually moves.

Note

iPhone HEIC, AirDrop, and Google Photos — the GPS is often still there

Hiding a location in Photos or Google Photos does not always rewrite the file. HEIC originals, AirDrop, and “download original” still carry camera GPS.

Is an online webcam test safe? Does it record you?

Many “webcam test” pages feel like spyware. Here is how to tell a tab-local preview from an upload, and what this one actually does with the stream.

Note

Is it safe to convert a PDF online?

Most PDF to JPG sites take the file. A lease, an ID, or homework does not belong on someone else's disk. Here is how to tell an upload from a tab.

Marketplace, dating, and listing photos — what still leaks

A listing photo can still carry GPS, a street sign, or a bedroom window. What apps usually strip, what they keep, and how to wash the file before you post.

Note

PDF to JPG does not extract text

Converting a PDF to JPEG paints the page. The words become pixels. You cannot copy them out. Here is the difference, and when you actually want a picture.

How to see where a photo was taken — from the file, not the app

Camera-roll photos often still have GPS in the file. Read the coordinates in your browser, pin them on a map, then strip them if you do not want that pin.

How to convert images without uploading them

WebP, PNG, AVIF, and iPhone HEIC do not need a server. Here is how to change the box in the tab you already have open — stack photos into a PDF, or paint PDF pages into JPEGs.

Note

Does compressing a photo remove GPS and EXIF?

Re-saving a photo through the browser writes a new file. GPS, camera model, and timestamps usually do not survive. Here is what that means — and when you still need a dedicated strip.

JPEG vs WebP — which format actually shrinks a photo?

WebP usually wins on file size. JPEG still wins on “will this open.” Here is when to pick each before you send a picture.

Note

Static vs dynamic QR — why a free generator can track every scan

A static QR bakes the destination into the pixels. A dynamic QR points at the generator’s short link so they can count scans. Here is the difference, and how to make one that does not phone home.
