PDF to JPG does not extract text

September 4, 2026

A form wants a photo of page 2. You have a PDF. That is a picture job.

“Get the words out of this PDF” is a different job. People search both as “PDF to JPG.” They are not the same.

Pictures, not text

PDF to JPG paints each page as a JPEG. What you see on the page is what you get: layout, stamps, a scan of a passport, a worksheet with boxes. The letters are ink in the picture. You cannot select them in Preview and paste them into a doc.

That is not a bug. JPEG has no text layer.

If you needed a spreadsheet of the invoice lines, this door will not do it. We do not run OCR. Cloud OCR is the thing that does need the file.

When a picture is the right file

Need a lossless page instead of another JPEG encode? PDF to PNG.

When you should stop

If the next step is “copy the paragraph,” convert will waste your time. Open the PDF in a reader and copy from there — if the file still has a text layer. A scanned homework packet often does not. Then you need OCR, and you should pick a tool you trust with that document, or type it.

Password-locked files stay locked here either way.

Do it in this tab

  1. Open PDF to JPG.
  2. Drop the PDF.
  3. Download the JPEGs, or a zip if there is more than one page.

Nothing is sent to TrashPandaKit. Why that matters for a lease or an ID: is it safe to convert a PDF online. How-to: PDF to JPG without uploading.
