What this tool can and cannot do
Phones write latitude and longitude into the file when location services are on. That is EXIF GPS. We read those tags here. We do not look at landmarks or guess from the pixels.
Instagram, WhatsApp, and many share sheets strip GPS on the way out. A download from those apps is usually empty. An original from the camera roll often is not.
Why the map waits for a click
Coordinates never leave this tab. A map still has to fetch tiles. The tile server can see your IP and the neighborhood you view. So the pin is opt-in. Copy the numbers and paste them into any maps app if you want to keep tiles off this page.
Found a pin you do not want in the file? Strip the GPS. Longer version: how location data hides in photos.
