AVIF to JPG

How to convert AVIF to JPG without uploading

  1. Add one .avif or a pile. Files stay in this tab.
  2. The browser decodes AVIF here. We write a JPEG at the same pixels.
  3. Save the JPGs, or a zip if you dropped more than one.

The originals stay on your device. You download a new file. Close the tab and the working copies are gone from memory.

Why AVIF still needs a JPEG

Sites started serving AVIF because it is tiny. Save-as or a “Download image” later hands you a file Outlook and a lot of printers will not open.

This tab uses the browser’s own decoder, then writes a JPEG. If the browser cannot paint AVIF, we say so — we do not upload it to a server that can.

Pixel count stays the same. GPS and other tags do not survive the re-encode.

AVIF to JPG FAQ

Do you upload the AVIF?

No. If this browser can paint AVIF, conversion stays in the tab. If it cannot, the file is not sent anywhere else either.

Why did a file fail?

Older Safari and some embedded browsers cannot decode AVIF. Open the page in Chrome, Firefox, or a current Safari and try again.

Can I convert a pile?

Yes. Zip download when more than one is done.

Does this work offline?

Yes, after you have opened this tool once. That tool stays cached on this device. Other tools download when you open them.
